Statutory RSHE Guidance

As you may be aware, the Department for Education (DfE) published statutory guidance for schools in relation to Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE). Schools have a statutory duty to follow this guidance and develop a curriculum that meets the requirements within. The guidance in full can be found here: RSHE Statutory Guidance.

At Tudor Grange Primary Academy St James, we are proud to have prioritised high quality PSHE and RSHE education for a number of years and have embedded a programme of study that is appropriate for the age and stage of development of our pupils. As such, the new statutory guidance requires very little change from our existing curriculum already in place.

Below is a video which details the requirements of the guidance and the approaches to the curriculum we take at TGPASJ. We appreciate you taking the time to watch this video in full. There is further information to be found below the video.

The DfE have produced Frequently Asked Questions information for parents which can be accessed here: DfE Frequently Asked Questions

There is also a guide for primary school parents which can be accessed here: DfE Parent Guidance

Curriculum Resources

Our PSHE and RSHE curriculums will both be delivered through the Jigsaw programme, which we have been using successfully in school for the last 4 years. It is an inclusive and engaging approach which is loved by pupils and teachers alike and we are proud to be a ‘Jigsaw school’. The programme is continuously updated so we can be sure that the curriculum we are sharing with our pupils is current and appropriate.

Further information about the Jigsaw approach to PSHE can be found here: Jigsaw Information Leaflet for Parents and Carers

Further information about the Jigsaw approach to implementing the statutory RSHE guidance can be found here: RSHE A Guide for Parents and Carers leaflet

The curriculum may be supplemented by other high quality resources from a range of sources. All resources are carefully selected to ensure that they are of a high standard, factually accurate and developmentally appropriate for use.

Parental Feedback

Many thanks for the parental feedback that was gathered in the spring term of 2020, in response to the parental consultation that was issued. Responses to questions that were raised through this can be found here: Responses to questions raised in the Parental Feedback Questionnaire on RSHE.
