Year One had a wonderful experience when they visited our local church, St James the Great, for their ‘Journey to the Stable’ event. The children met many familiar characters from the Nativity. They enjoyed taking part in activities including a craft activity using lolly sticks to make star decorations which they took home. They were thoroughly engrossed with the re-telling of the Christmas story and were very excited by a real baby in role as Jesus! This has really supported their learning for their current RE unit, ‘Why does Christmas matter to Christians?’ and has prepared them for their own nativity performance in a few weeks time.
