Based on our Crime and Punishment History unit, we visited the West Midlands Police Museum in Birmingham. We were forensics experts, looking at finger prints, handwriting and footprints to find a suspect. We went into lock up cells from Victorian times, WWII and 2016 to see how they changed through time and discussed what conditions were like. On the third floor, we saw a police box and discussed why they were needed. We also learnt about police vehicles and how they have adapted over time. Finally, we took part in a true or false activity, linking our learning to crime and punishment through history where some children acted out punishments such as picking oakum, turning the crank and walking on the treadmill.
