In Science we have been exploring everyday materials. We have considered what is a material and an object, and sorted materials based on what they are and then their properties. Today, children completed a simple test to decide which material would be best for an umbrella. They decided that the properties the umbrella needed were for it to be strong, waterproof but light weight. Children first learnt to use a pipette correctly to ensure the water was being dripped out so they could control how much water they placed on each test material. They then explored a range of different materials to see which absorbed the water and which were waterproof. Finally, they recorded their findings in a table.
