History is important in helping children develop a sense of self – where they have come from, where they are now, and the big picture of how the world works- and how we know. At TGPASJ we encourage the children to question and to think, and as such historical understanding is developed through a series of enquiries. Progression will be shown by: An increasing understanding of chronology; understanding and use of key historical terms; ability to identify features and similarities/ differences within and across periods; understanding how to carry out an historical investigation and present ideas effectively with increasing independence; growing confidence in explaining why things happened the way they did; using historical evidence of an increasingly wider range and difficulty, and beginning to challenge how useful this evidence is.
